It Begins on Burgos Street

I returned to my photos of the Philippines taken in 2007 after coming back home from watching Indian-Canadian filmmaker, Richie Mehta's Amal at the Heartland Film Festival. Memories of growing up in the Philippines are my most visited memories. Richie went to his Indian roots to make his first feature film. We write about what we know; we make movies about what we know intimately. Maybe after the first work, movie or book, we can stray beyond what we know but then must invest even more time in research to acquire that intimacy with the subject we must have to write about it with intelligence, wit and grace!
