On the water pontoon boats float by silent as invading armies. Kayaks are the only speedsters allowed on the six-acre postage-size lake. On my porch herbs swelter in the sun. Soon they'll allow me perhaps summer's most splendid gift—fresh herbs and vegetables for the kitchen!
